We have worked hard and put together a excellent line-up of 11 educational events. These educational seminars are FREE and all pilots (rotary and fixed) are welcomed to attend.

To show your support, we ask that all members of the Greater Saint Louis Helicopter Association attend at least one seminar every three months. FAA WINGS participation/credit for these events is in the works.

February 28, 2009     Owner/Operator Aircraft Maintenance Responsibilities
Every owner/operator needs to know his or her responsibility for maintaining an aircraft. This program outlines the maintenance regulatory requirements for the owner/ operator.

March 28, 2009         Robinson R-22/R-44 Aircraft Familiarization
Pilots of the Robinson R-22/R-44 need to be familiar with the operating systems of each type of aircraft.  This program will review the aircraft systems and things to look for on a preflight.  Prize for the pilot finding the most squawks.  Location: HeliSat in Moscow Mills, Missouri. Directions: From Wentzville, Missouri travel North on Highway 61 approximately 11 miles until you enter Moscow Mills, Missouri. You will pass the exit for Highway U. Continue North on Highway 61 for 0.6 miles in your LEFT lane. You will see a small business park on the West side of Highway 61 along with a large highway sign for Raceway Park. You will make an immediate LEFT turn crossing the highway median on to the frontage road on the Westside of Highway 61.Turn left (South bound) on the frontage road and follow the road around to your right, until you see Jerry Bickel Race Cars. April  25, 2009           Pilot Hazardous Attitudes
Review what role a pilot’s attitude played in the steps leading to an accident. This program covers how a pilot’s attitude can affect the safe operation of an aircraft.  The information presented affects rotary-wing pilots as well as fixed-wing pilots.

May 30, 2009            What We Can Learn From Aircraft Accidents
This program reviews many different kinds of accidents affecting all kinds of  aircraft.  History teaches us that if we do not learn from the mistakes of the past then we are condemned to repeat them.  Good for all rated pilots.

June 27, 2009            Determining Aircraft Airworthiness
Most pilots have a different interpretation of what the term “airworthiness” means. This program covers the regulatory requirements of determining if an aircraft is fact “airworthy”.  Good for all rated pilots.

July 25, 2009              Pilot Legal Responsibilities
This program covers the legal responsibilities of the pilot when operating an  aircraft.  The information will be provided by a rated aviation attorney and will help any pilot understand their legal responsibilities and rights should an enforcement action occur.  Good for all rated pilots.

August 29, 2009        Some Hazards of Helicopter Flight
This program discusses some of the traps that helicopter pilots fall into due to a  lack of awareness in the operating environment.   Review some techniques to help prevent the pilot from experiencing the hazards associated with helicopter flight.

September 26, 2009 Loss of Aircraft Control
Many aircraft accidents are the result of pilot’s losing control of the aircraft. Learn  some of the causes and ways to help prevent these types of accidents from occurring.

October 31, 2009       Cold Weather Operations
Operations in cold weather present specific challenges both for the pilot and the aircraft.  Review the significant factors that affect cold weather operations and how the pilot can cope with these conditions.  Good for all rated pilots.

November 21, 2009    Wire Avoidance
Helicopters striking wires is still one of the top causes of fatalities in the helicopter industry.  Learn some of the tips in wire avoidance that may someday save your life.                  

December 19, 2009   2009 Accident Review
This program is a review of various helicopter accidents occurring throughout the past year.  Helicopter accidents affect everyone in the helicopter industry not only through public perception but increased insurance rates that affect operational costs.
