Age-old mating, nesting and family-protection instincts just naturally drive relationships forward. While male and female instincts differ in some ways, they also have much in common. A healthy person, man or woman, does not want to live his or her life alone. It helps a lot, though, if you understand how all this works.
You can't make an impossible relationship work, but you can strengthen and accelerate a normal relationship -- or know when and why it's coming off the track. If you really delve into this Section, you'll even find out how to create the "chemistry" of love...
Here are my key Guidelines for a Relationship:
While Love retains its wonderful mystery, we've learned a
few things about it. We know what creates the "In Love" feeling, and most
important, we know that lasting love is built on closeness, trust, and
communication. To learn about "Inner Languages," "Romantic Triggers," "Anchoring,"
and other touchstones which can bring you closer, browse through "The
Amazing Power of Mirroring" and the articles which follow in this Section.
In a sound relationship, partners are not only tolerant of
each other's imperfections, they "cover" for each other. Instead of being
annoyed by their personality differences, they appreciate that their different
"takes" on the world give new insights to each other and gives them strength
as a team. See "Secrets For Understanding Your
Mate".
Relationships develop in stages. "The
Steps to Commitment" gives you an overview of these stages, and even
a rule-of-thumb timetable for a relationship's progression. This will provide
some much- needed perspective for anyone who feels rushed or stalled in
their relationship. If your relationship has some of the normal problems,
"Avoiding Fights" and "Spicing
Up Your Love Life" might help.
To help those who aren't sure if their relationship is fixable or not (or for those who just want to read some entertaining true-life stories), this section of my Library starts off with examples of go-nowhere affairs, crazy love, and a "What I Did For Love" series of one-sided love stories, including one of mine. Advice on more normal problems in potentially healthy relationships starts with "Are You Giving Too Much Too Soon?" and progresses into techniques for solidifying True Love.
